It looks to be another banner turnout for the Harrigan’s 5k!

Registrations are rolling in at a rate of 25 per day and growing, and we are squarely on track for another 1000+ runner event.

Cheryl’s will be ordering cookies for runners today according to the registrations we have. They will be at the after-party to pass out their cookies, so run fast to be early & secure your sweets for the day.

And, WATCH YOUR E-MAIL next Monday for additional surprise events taking place after the race.

Harrigans5k Chopper One

In 2011, the Harrigans5k event accomplished the Miami Valley’s first-ever 5k race flyover. We tried to swing an Air Force fighter, but failed … fortunately our friends happen to own a chopper and treated us all to that fly-over.

They also donated a fabulous helicopter tour of Green County as a 2011 door prize – we don’t yet know if that will happen again this year but if it does, we’ll let you know right away.

Conditions permitting, our very own Harrigans5k Chopper One may make a return appearance for 2012.

What a great sign of the times that some companies have become very proactive in encouraging employee wellness. So EXCELLENT!!!!!

Medals for 2012

The medals are being readied for all you WINNERS out there.

Gold, silver, and bronze for males and females in each age category:

9 and under; 10-14; 15-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; … 65-69; 70 and up

PLUS top 3 overall M/F and top 3 Masters M/F

And, NEW FOR 2012, we will have medals for the top 3 M/F wheelchair contestants, so encourage your friends to register.

U&R will award certificates for a new pair of shoes for 1st place male; 1st place female; 1st place Masters male; 1st place Masters female categories.

In addition, U&R will donate about 20 other items for door prizes.

WOW factor door prize

We just confirmed that James Free has donated a $250 gift certificate as a door prize for 2012!

Other prizes so far include a $100 gift certificate from GFS, cookies from Cheryl’s, and WG Grinder and First Watch gift certificates. We previously mentioned that Trader Joe’s will be back again with a shopping bag of their good stuff.

USAF Marathon booth

Representatives from the Air Force Marathon will have a booth outside of the registration tent on race day to answer your questions. With the marathon selling out earlier each year, they want to make sure that local runners have every opportunity to register and get into the race before the next price increase on April 2^nd.

Record rate of sign-ups means cotton is now IN FASHION

Congratulations! You have blown away the previous record of sign-ups for the Harrigan’s 5k … on Wednesday, Jan 24th 2012, we went over the 150 mark, so (sorry to say) the tech shirts have all been committed. But, not to worry because we have the BEST cotton shirts around and there will be one for every one else, including volunteers.

Sponsor & registration update

We have already received 125 registrations – only 25 tech shirts to go so tell your friends the tech shirt window is closing. We have never had this many registrations this early – great for the charities.

We are very pleased that Cheryl’s (Town & Country Shopping Center) jumped at the opportunity to become a Harrigan’s 5k sponsor. They will be contributing dozens upon dozens of their delicious cookies to the runners. Because they must be ordered by 2/21 for the number of registrations received by then, we won’t have enough for everyone …they will be passed out on a first-come, first-served basis after the race. In addition, Cheryl’s will be providing a door prize.

If you are in the shopping center, please stop in to Cheryl’s to say hi & thanks – the same goes for Trader Joe’s who will again this year provide a shopping bag door prize chock full of good stuff.

January 12 — 53 runners have registered already and reserved their tech shirts. With the first e-mail scheduled to go out shortly, we expect the rest of the 150 tech shirts will be claimed rather quickly.
